The Role
The Forward Deployed Engineer sits at the intersection of the client's hardest problems and the technology that solves them. You will embed directly with client teams, understand their operation in depth, and build tailored solutions on Pendo and adjacent AI tooling that create measurable impact from the first weeks of an engagement.
This is not a role where you configure one capability and move on. You own end-to-end delivery. A single week might include mapping a client's data and account architecture, building an AI workflow against their product usage data, and sitting with a VP of Customer Success to reset how the organization measures health and adoption. You work in a small team of engineers and domain experts, and you carry a project from prototype to production.
The closest analogy is a hands-on startup CTO embedded with the customer. You move with speed and precision, you build real software, and you engage senior stakeholders with confidence.
What You Will Do
- Translate client objectives into a delivery plan. You gather requirements, analyze data and workflows, and define the path from prototype to a scaled, operational deployment.
- Prototype and iterate quickly. You build from scratch when needed, validate with real users, and adjust rapidly based on feedback and operational results.
- Deploy and operate production systems. You apply real engineering discipline in the field, including code review, deployability, and monitoring, because the systems you build have to work once you leave.
- Own the client relationship at the technical level. You partner with delivery leads, program managers, and client stakeholders to design, build, and support client-facing applications and analytics.
- Bring the field back to the firm. You surface patterns from your engagements that improve Balboa's internal tooling, reusable assets, and delivery playbooks so that a solution built for one client benefits many.
What We Are Looking For
- Strong engineering background, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Proficiency in at least one modern language such as Python, TypeScript, or similar, with real comfort wrangling data and building integrations.
- Experience taking software or data solutions to production, not just proof of concept.
- Ability to translate technical concepts for nontechnical audiences and hold your own with senior client stakeholders.
- Genuine interest in the customer's domain and the patience to understand a business before building for it.
- Working knowledge of product analytics platforms such as Pendo, or the aptitude and drive to become expert quickly. Familiarity with applied AI and LLM workflows is a strong plus.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed, roughly up to 25 percent, flexible based on the engagement.
